Enjoying the "Bar & Banter" at Byfield Bowls Club

Coaching 5th July 2026

From one extreme to another - for the coaching session in 2025 it was torrential rain, this year in contrast it was a scorcher! Certainly a very hot afternoon when Byfield Bowls Club welcomed four Northamptonshire coaches.
All the members found the coaching extremely useful and provided valuable guidance and expertise from the knowledgeable coaches. Although it also highlighted, the challenge of identifying and changing some of the habits many have developed over time.
The session encouraged everyone to reflect on their delivery technique and "unpick" any bad habits but hopefully the result will be worthwhile.
Lets see how these newly acquired skills will impact on our future matches.....
The coaching was followed by a lovely tea and what Byfield do best - "bowls, beer and banter" (other chilled drinks were also available.)
Green Keeper's Day 13th June 2026
Our annual Green Keeper's Day, looked like organised chaos but Garry meticulously planned another very entertaining and amusing event with modified sports which were loosely sports related including tennis, cricket and even Shove Ha'penny(if that's even a sport!)

Garry's Greenkeeper's Day 2025
Yet again, Garry provided members with endless fun,for our Club's Greenkeeper's Day
, held on Saturday 14th June.
, held on Saturday 14th June. The theme this year was alternative sports!
Many of our new members joined us for the fun-packed afternoon. We played a version of cricket, using our bowls to "bat or bowl" followed by tennis, launching tennis balls from the balcony into dustbins!

There were loads of LBW's and certainly more practice is needed for any of us
to reach Lord's or Wimbledon - perhaps we should stick to bowls!
Thanks to Garry for his exceptional organisational skills. Can't wait till next year!

Martin and Luke battled through a rainstorm to play a very exciting singles match.
Despite Martin taking an early lead, Luke used his recently acquired experience from
his South African bowls tour to skilfully win the last end to take the match.
Luke will now play in the semi-final round.
